April 2018 Programme


The Breakaway Club regular Tuesday club nights are held in the function room in The John Selden, Half Moon Lane, Salvington, Worthing, BN13 2EN. Just come in through the Half Moon Lane entrance and walk to the right of the bar through to the function room at the end of the passage. The doors will be open from 8pm.


Please remember entry is £2.50 for members and £3.50 for non-members (free if this is your first visit to the club). Thank you.

Please note: Every Tuesday from 7.30pm to 8pm Phil will be giving Modern Jive/Le Roc lessons to beginners who would like to learn some basic moves. If you are interested in this, please note that it will be for half an hour only, just before our usual opening time.

Sunday 1st April: Easter Sunday Lunch at Worthing Pavilion Bowls Club. Meet at 1pm.

Tuesday 3rd April: Bingo on Club Night at the John Selden. 8pm to 11pm as usual, but the Bingo will be a short session from about 9pm to 9.30pm with small cash prizes for the winners! £1 to join in. And there will still be plenty of time to chat to friends, and dance to the music of one of our own DJs. Usual raffle, door prize and Snowball.

Friday 6th April: Ten Pin Bowling on the first Friday of the month. Meet in the bar at Worthing Bowl at 8pm. £11.35 for 2 games. Contact Glyn if you would like to go.

Tuesday 10th April: Karaoke on Club Night at the John Selden. 8pm to 11pm. Phil will be putting on a very short karaoke session from 9.45pm to 10pm. So there will be still lots of time for you to chat to friends and dance to the music of Phil’s Disco. Usual raffle, door prize and Snowball.

Friday 13th April: *Live Band The Dumb Waiters at the Grand Victorian Hotel, Worthing. 8.30pm.

Tuesday 17th April: Ray’s Fun ‘Horsey’ Racing on Club Night at the John Selden. 8pm until 11pm. If you fancy a ‘flutter’, the races start at 9.30pm and finish about 10pm. Stakes will be pegged to £1 a go, so you can’t lose your shirt! This should be a great fun evening even if you don’t want to join in but just watch! And there will still be plenty of time to chat to friends and dance to the music of our own DJ. Usual raffle. door prize and Snowball.

Friday 20th April: Darts Night (venue to be confirmed, as the Royal Oak has now closed). Please contact Enid for details.

Sunday 22nd April: Skittles at the Black Horse, Findon. 7.30pm start. Please contact Glyn if you would like to go, as this date has not yet been confirmed.

Tuesday 24th April: Hilary’s ‘States of America’ Quiz at the John Selden. Name the States highlighted on a map – how hard can it be? £1 to join in. Doors open 8pm as usual, with the quiz going on from about 8.30pm to 9.30pm. There will still be plenty of time to chat to friends and dance to the music of one of our own DJs until 11pm. Usual raffle, door prize and Snowball. Pick up your May Programme tonight.

Wednesday 25th April: Lunch and Greyhound racing at the Brighton and Hove Greyhound Stadium. Contact Richard for more details.

Friday 27th April: Arun Solos Disco at Arundel Cricket Club. Cheap drinks and a popular venue with Breakaway members. Starts 8pm until 11.30pm. Cost £7 on the door.

Sunday 29th April: Hilary’s Walk from Marine Gardens to the Lido. Meet 1.45pm at the red-brick-pillared entrance to Marine Gardens. We will walk along the seafront to the cafĂ© at the Lido for tea and cakes, or whatever takes your fancy – the food there is reasonably priced. Please put your name on the list if you would like to go, or contact Hilary.

Tuesday 1st May: Live Band on Club Night at the John Selden. Our DJs get a night off, as we celebrate May Day, the first day of summer – hooray! And dance to the music of a real live band!

Tuesday 15th May: Peter’s Quiz on Club Night at the John Selden.

Tuesday 22nd May: Bingo on Club Night at the John Selden.

Tuesday 29th May: Hilary’s Memory Game on Club Night at the John Selden.

Sunday 1st July: Coach Trip to the Stratford Upon Avon River Festival with Worthing Coaches. There will be live music on two stages, a spectacular display of narrow boats, an artisan craft market, lots of world food stalls, plus local ales, Pimms and Prosecco, and lots more besides. The Festival takes place on the banks of the river Avon, opposite the Royal Shakespeare Theatre. The cost will be around £23 a head for the coach, as the Festival itself is free. If you would like to go please put your name on the list as soon as possible, as we will have to book soon.

Saturday 14th July: Breakaway’s Super Summer Party at the Hillbarn Golf Club, Worthing. If you want to go, please put your name on the list for this popular event as soon as possible, as we are limited to 45 people only. Cost £12.00 a head, which includes a cold fork buffet and dessert. 7pm to 11pm.

Saturday 22nd September: A night at the TheatreSherlock Holmes: The Sign of Four – Connaught Theatre, Worthing. ‘Crammed full of adventure, romance, and comedy’, plus a great detective story and ‘original live music’. £12.50 per person for a group of 8 or more. Starts 7.30pm. Names on the list as soon as possible, as we need to book early to get seats together.
